i have it good. i really need a haircut (it's been since march or april, sucks badly!), and instead of taking the initiative to call and make an appointment somewhere (i'm not doing all the driving to have my beloved darlene cut my hair...), tony did it for me. easy as pie. he made all the arrangements (as well as an appointment for himself) and i am fully confident i will have a good haircut. AND for the first time ever, a man will be cutting my hair. tony swears he's good, and i trust tony's judgment.
in other news, my mom referred to tony as "decorator boy" today... as if tony's knack for decorating gives him some sort of gay superhero status. (aside: tony is not gay.)
this morning, tony and i took the opportunity to spend a few hours with one another, playing some of our favorite atari games (kaboom and circus atari... i like games with paddles). then we had breakfast... service was sloooooooooooow, but the food was good. while waiting for our meal, we browsed through the help wanted ads in scene magazine. i wanted to call about a job that said something like, "FEMALES WANTED: make 1,700 a week!" tony said no. we also discussed the possibility of selling my eggs... which is really gross, because i don't want to think about having eggs. being a girl is gross.

the rain has stopped for the time being and the pond in the backyard has disappeared. i think it's a good thing because i don't know if they make scuba gear for horses. or donkeys. or dogs.
i hate the electric stove. i've never used anything but gas, and let me tell you, gas is far superior. this electric shit sucks. i've failed miserably at boiling. how does one fail to boil? use an electric stove and it's easy.
newt was better indoors today than yesterday, when i referred to him as a "fucking piece of shit quarter horse." today he had a "my mommy's mad at me" attitude and was fairly obedient. because of the rain, we might push back our departure for findlay to friday or saturday, instead of thursday. this means i will miss my classes on friday, but it doesn't really matter. i was also informed that as of today, we still don't have a hotel room. i must get on that immediately. but it's findlay... if every room is booked in that shithole town, i'll be shocked.
i got some stuff done today... took a shower curtain back to target, bought a new one at bed, bath and beyond. i also dropped off an application and spoke with the manager at a potential place of new employment. sounds promising, and the manager seemed very cool. so, if the grand prospect of the metroparks job doesn't come around, it's good to know i might not go broke. and to those wondering, i still haven't heard from the parks. please keep fingers crossed. i would love to have that job.
speaking of jobs, i must prepare for work now that it will take me forever to drive there. ugh. i will see tony tonight afterwards, though, and that will be cool.

i don't want to sound like a whiny baby... but it's so weird. tonight is the first night i haven't seen tony in forever. i don't know what to do with myself. so far i've watched a lot of television, which is completely unlike me. i have cable in my bedroom for the first time in my entire life... i snuggled up to the dog on my bed and watched a couple episodes of blind date. i talked to tony only briefly. i think we're both glum and sad and missing each other, so neither one of us had much to say.
but it's not like i moved to antarctica or anything. i'll see him tomorrow. and it will be nice.
a shout out to my pal david. he sent me the two sausages i needed to complete my collection of racing sausages from the milwaukee brewers. i welcomed bratwurst and italian sausage with open arms today. brat is so cute. he and polish are my favorites.
dog has finally settled here. she was left alone for the first time since moving... and she handled it like a champ. the house wasn't destroyed and she hardly even got up to greet me when i got home.
sigh. i finished reading seabiscuit so now i'm just waiting for the movie to come out. i need to find something else to do. newt is going to a horse show this weekend... in findlay of all places... this is, of course, assuming the weather is going to be okay. even bad weather before a horse show puts a damper on things, mainly because i can't ride newt outside. he is a fucking asshole indoors, and as far as i'm concerned, it's not even worth my time to ride him. hopefully the weather will clear up and things will dry out by the weekend... we really got a lot of rain here. we have a small pond in our backyard that wasn't there this afternoon. yikes.

if i never have to move again, i will be thrilled. i am determined to live here for the rest of my life, if not longer. i'm maybe less than three percent serious about this, but right now, the thought of moving anywhere is so unappealing.
i'd like to add that i hardly moved anything. tony did most of the moving and carrying and cleaning. i just sat around and whined in true princess fashion. oh boy, and let's not talk about reassembling my bed! i couldn't have been more useless in that process if i tried.
seriously, though, i couldn't have done anything without tony. i'd have like one more box of stuff moved and i'd still be driving to the old house to shower and for clothes. tony rules!
last night we watched twin falls idaho. it was... interesting. i must do research on conjoined twins. after the movie, it was funny to play the "would you still have talked to me at the grog shop if...?" game with tony. this is usually my game... "would you still have talked to me at the grog shop if i was blind like bjork in that one film?" but tony took the reins and asked me if i would have talked to him at the grog if there was another (partial) tony stuck to him. i probably would have. maybe.

i should have written about the new pornographers show sooner... because i don't want to take anything away from it just because i saw one of my top three last night.
so... on tuesday night, tony and i went to see the new pornographers, mainly because we wanted to see the lonesome organist since it's been a while. but tony also has this thing for neko case, so that was kind of an added bonus. the first band was called the organ. i think they take the prize for one of the ugliest bands i have ever seen... and they get the grand prize for being an all-female version of the smiths. oh god, it was awful. then the lonesome organist played... it's been a few years since i've seen him (1999? whenever pavement last toured... so yes, 1999.) and i just remember him being a lot more animated or goofy or something. it was like he was more about playing music and less about crazy onstage antics. oh well, it was still entertaining.
the new pornographers were great. i absolutely adored them. new favorite band, providing their recorded material is comparable to what we saw live. they were funny and sounded great and the songs were just all so poppy and listenable. thumbs up.
last night we had the pleasure of seeing one of my favorite bands, modest mouse. the agora was effing hot, the show was totally packed, and the crowd was... different. at first i was a little worried about the crowd (tony and i were by far the elders in our little section of the floor) but once the show started, i hardly even noticed them. there was a lot of banter between songs... they didn't seem very well rehearsed as far as that went. maybe a little rusty, maybe it was the new drummer. the banter was at least entertaining. isaac was very witty, very funny, and he had this little mr. t thing that said typical mr. t phrases. he kept holding it up to the microphone... it was good stuff.
as far as the actual content of the show goes... i really think they could have played a little longer. i felt somewhat slighted about the length of the show, and i don't really think it's because i'm like super gbv fan or something and i expect a 2+ hour show. the new songs were really fucking good... i was kind of secretly hoping they'd suck, so maybe some of the kids would start to dislike modest mouse and the shows wouldn't be so sweaty and packed. but that's okay, i'd love a good album from them. they played a lot of good older material, but avoided "this is a long drive..." completely, which made me a little sad. i love nothing more than hearing "breakthrough" live. so... what did they play? hmm. broke, trailer trash, interstate 8 (my favorite), cowboy dan (another favorite), neverending math equation, bankrupt on selling, third planet, wild packs of family dogs, and paper thin walls. those are all the ones i could recognize. notable things about the new songs... cool use of keyboards and an upright bass and a banjo.
we ran into tracy at the show (actually tony did while making a bar run). i was happy she came up from dayton but i'm disappointed we didn't run into her after the show. i hope she enjoyed it.
so, yes, it was a great time with modest mouse. i remembered exactly why they are in my top three.
i was pleasantly surprised to learn that the flaming lips are playing at the gay nautica/scene stage thing in a couple of weeks. very exciting, even more exciting is tickets are priced at a cool fifteen bucks. radiohead is also fast approaching... just over a month away.
moving is going well... slowly on my end. most of my clothes and my dressers are still at the old house. hopefully we can get those moved tomorrow so i could start living here or something. i'm feeling a bit like a nomad, sleeping most of my nights at tony's, spending most of my days here at the new house, and having most of my belongings elsewhere. weird. we're going to finish painting today, which shouldn't take too long. then i'll feel like i can settle. finally!
17 JUL 2003 - 1.51p
i'm here! woo! modest mouse is tonight!
i'm just making an entry to say i'm online again... it didn't take nearly as long as i thought it would.
i also wanted to share a story. last night at work, some crazy guy came in and told me that the butter talks to him at a supermarket in lakewood. for real. tony and i plan on checking it out.
more tomorrow!
15 JUL 2003 - 11.43a
hi. i'm leaving for a few days. not really leaving, but moving is now becoming hardcore. i will be without computer and possibly internet for a bit, so if you need to reach me, please call my cell phone. thanks!
14 JUL 2003 - 3.51p
i was so happy to turn in the ghetto chevy trailblazer today in exchange for my own lovely car back. it looks fabulous and it is so nice to be behind its wheel again, instead of the ghetto wheel. i missed my cr-v.
i'm not nearly as ready to move as i should be. slowly, slowly... it's a good thing i took all that time off work. i have tomorrow off, then i work on wednesday night, then i have a big, long weekend off to move and settle in medina. crazy.
last night at tony's, i played atari for the first time in about twenty years. i liked it a lot. and i wasn't too horrible awful bad at it. i was really good at ms. pac man and some circus game that used the paddles. these little clowns were jumping on a trampoline or something and you had to make them pop "balloons" (squares) at the top of the screen. i usually don't like games with the paddles (i always hated kaboom), but this one was okay. fun times with tony. he's going to have an atari party.
tomorrow night we're going to see the lonesome organist (asshole) and the new pornographers, too. thursday night is MODEST MOUSE. i'm excited.

i have just been informed that built to spill tickets for the cleveland agora show on september 22 are five bucks! i have been assured that this is not some built to spill cover band, but the real built to spill. when was the last time you paid five bucks for a show, let alone a good show? hmm.
i was just informed that the repair of my cr-v is pending on a part that is due to arrive this afternoon. looks like another day with the trailblazer ghetto wagon. blech!
i am going to return to the new house for some painting in a bit. before i go, i'd like to tip my hat to my pal brett who found himself in a sticky situation earlier this week. best wishes to you, brett. i sincerely hope things work out. if you need cigarettes or anything, do not hesitate to call me.
i'm ready for some paint fumes! yeehaw!
10 JUL 2003 - 11.55a
we started painting my new room yesterday. it's a shade called gilded green. in bright light, it looked almost brown. in less light, it looked pistachio. weird stuff. i have no idea what color it is. second coat of paint might happen tomorrow. maybe.
i got my rental car while the love of my life, my honda cr-v, is being repaired from the accident. the rental car company tried to give me a mini van, but i would have none of that. good god, i have never driven a mini van, and i'd like to keep it that way. so, they gave me a chevy blazer instead... oh, excuse me... it's a trailblazer now. either way, the car is nice. it's much more trucky feeling than my cr-v. i feel kind of ghetto while i'm driving it, although i can't really explain why. but it's certainly NOT a mini van and that's all that counts.
my dear friend princess shelley in chicago might be visiting us in august!! i am so excited!! i haven't seen her since last year and she is the best.
i'm tired of the rain.
08 JUL 2003 - 10.17a
are you amplified to rock? i'm not expecting an answer, i just have that stuck in my head. ("hardcore ufos")
last night we finished watching the best show ever, austin stories. the season finale was heartwrenching... we'll never know what happened to know them! in other news, thanks to david for giving me the one and only season of austin stories on tape (loyal readers might remember this as one of the items on my birthday list)... it arrived in the mail the other day. underneath my address, the word "MEDA" was scrawled... it was a bit odd, because as you may or may not know, that's tony's last name. i was afraid to put in the tape, fearing it might be one of his girls gone wild tapes or something. but it wasn't. it was the best show ever.
i have to take care of some stuff for school now.
07 JUL 2003 - 9.52a
moving has begun! i officially started moving yesterday when i took my zoo pie paining, buffalo 66 poster, and framed whigs poster off of my walls, packed them safely into the cr-v, and shuttled them to medina. that's all i've moved so far. at the rate i'm going, i should be moved by christmas. i bought the best area rug ever yesterday and am looking forward to painting, hopefully on wednesday, my day off.
phoebe has had a great time at the new place... she nearly caught a squirrel yesterday. it was a dramatic chase over the acreage and i think she nearly tackled the squirrel at one point... but he quickly escaped up the nearest tree.
tony made a lovely entry on his diaryland thing and i suggest you check it out. i found it interesting that he commented on the way the barn smells on sunday... that's the only day they don't clean stalls. heh.
04 JUL 2003 - 8.03a
i signed in here because i really thought i had something to write about. oh well. i guess i was wrong.
we took a load of stuff over to my mom's new house yesterday. phoebe came with us... oh god, she was so funny. she ran from room to room and jumped up on every window and looked outside. she had a blast in the "backyard" which is, as you can see from that view from the deck, a little more than just a backyard. tony also had a blast in the yard... i found a teeny little toad that he promptly named "mcnugget." we brought him back to the deck with us and phoebe tried to eat him.
following the trip to medina, tony and i went out for dinner and then out for ice cream. we discussed some of our friends, and made the realization that we have never once "fucked each others' retarded brains out" while listening to gbv. in fact, we don't really listen to music at all when we're doing it. we never have. and we do it constantly. and we listen to gbv all the time, too. anyhow. when we got back to his apartment, we watched my favorite show, blind date. i like how TNN transformed from the hillbilly network into "the network for men" or some crap. either way, they play blind date like five times a day and i love it.
i'm looking forward to celebrating the 4th of july tonight with a 6 pack and some chips and a horse and tony. woo. i have to go to work soon.
03 JUL 2003 - 10.49a
i just returned home after having an estimate done on my car. 1012.90 in parts and labor. now i just have to get a hold of someone breathing at the asshole insurance company. i'm fed up with them. the sooner this is over, the better i will feel. i have made it known that the rental car they provide me with had better be a fucking SUV. if they don't give me something that compares with my current car, and i end up with something like a (gag) neon or a cavalier or something, hell will be raised. fists of fury o'malley.
i almost died from the heat yesterday. i think i sweated just a little too much while working newt yesterday. it's hard because newt loves the heat... after an hour of work, he's ready for more. i, on the other hand, hate it. horses are too much work. and to think, i got into this sport by thinking, "all i'll have to do is just sit there." ha. yeah, right. i started feeling sick soon after i was done with my ride... so today i am going to duct tape some gatorade to my thigh. i wish i could skip riding completely, but newt will have tomorrow off as we celebrate the 4th of july by downing a six pack outside of the pasture while he grazes. and since we are preparing for a horse show later this month (and a big one, at that), i must be good about keeping him fit and keeping up with training. bleh. i should've taken up knitting or something.
i'm currently loving two things right now. number one: radiohead's hail to the thief. i love it. the second thing: in anticipation of the upcoming film, seabiscuit, i have started reading the book of the same name. my mom bought it for me for my birthday... and it's great. not because it's a horse thing (i don't know shit about racehorses), but because it's a good story. i like the horse parts, yes... i can't deny that. especially when they talk about how seabiscuit was so lazy and would sleep all the time. he'd lie flat out, sleeping soundly when the other horses were calling for their breakfast. i love seabiscuit.
if you haven't already read my entry about my birthday and gbv, i highly suggest you do so. please check the june archives. happy belated canada day to the canadians!
